商品簡介
Van den Beemt, a physicist who helps researchers apply for national and international grants, and de Zoete, a consultant who uses concepts from psychology of persuasion to raise public awareness of societal issues, help scientists acquire a basic research grant from national and international funding organizations. They tested their approach in training sessions with European Research Council applicants at Utrecht U., the Netherlands, and base their advice on those experiences, as well as van den Beemt's Ph.D. thesis. Focusing on individual grants, they show how to evaluate the chances of winning funding and how to put them to maximum effect. They discuss the importance of finding funds, how funding organizations function, how they assess the scientific background of the investigator and the quality of the proposed research, the different parts of the application form, how to provide the best impression, how to answer peer reviews with a rebuttal and prepare for an interview, and problems posed by scientific conventions in various disciplines.
