商品簡介
Rousseau (early Christian studies, Catholic U. of America) surveys the history of the first six centuries of the rise of Christianity, attempting to relate the development of theological and philosophical themes to wider developments of society in the Roman world. He explores how the early Christians acknowledged their relations with the Jews and appropriated and transformed the culture of the Greeks and Romans. The reign of Constantine is presented as offering Christians new opportunities for self-definition while simultaneously fostering disillusionment and crisis. Additionally, a group of thematic chapters look at the structure, culture, and engagement with the outside world of the early church. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
