John Ford

John Ford was one of the few film directors who was master of both silent and sound movies. His 150 films span 50 years of filmmaking. Themes and techniques of his major films are discussed here, revealing his treatment of issues such as gender, race, the treatment of ethnic minorities and social outcasts, and the relationship between myth and reality. Material is centered on ideas which provide a sense of the coherence of Ford's creative output. B&w film stills are included.
