商品簡介
The various ways that the writing of history was understood, from the fourth century through the fourteenth, is the subject of a dozen essays by an international group of historians. Deliyannis (history and history of art, U. of Pennsylvania) provides an introduction to the field of medieval historiography. The four essays on the early Middle Ages (up to 1000) include the topics of universal history from Eusebius through the Carolingian writer, Frechulf of Lisieux; and ethnic and national history, including the writers Bede, Paul the Deacon, Isidore of Seville, Nithard, and Jordanes. Among the topics for the later Middle Ages are world and national historiography, dynastic history, institutional history, urban historiography, and biography. A lengthy (36-page) bibliography is included. Annotation (c) Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
