商品簡介
A report of an archeological dig made possible by the development of Cabot Circus (in Breadmead, a suburb of Bristol) shopping center, this hefty volume contains much information both developing pre-existing knowledge and on the new discoveries in the area. Placing the area in a historical and archeological background, the authors proceed to describe fieldwork results by historical period (including new results on the River from valley prehistory obtained from borehole surveys). Neolithic clearance of the river valley slopes is demonstrated. Later, medieval archeology includes pottery and tile finds associated with the Dominican Friary. A list of finds continues all the way into the 20th century. A chapter on biological evidence follows the discussion of specific finds, and thematic discussions including a chronological synthesis and specific locations of significance through time form the concluding chapter. Several appendices, among them detailed plans, details of medieval construction, and several biological aspects of the site, are included. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co.
