商品簡介
This collection on multimodal learning, edited by Katz (English education & applied linguistics, Sonoma State U.), is a call for pedagogy beyond linguistic absorption undertaken while sitting in chairs. The contributors draw on personal educational experience, ancient cultural traditions, and modern neuroscience research to argue that learning practices engaging the body are more effective, resulting in better linguistic interpretation and more well-rounded understanding of concepts. Several chapters pay special attention to the ways in which embodied learning can help disadvantaged populations, such as teen girls in identity building, women in self-defense, or patients with Parkinson's disease. Many chapters include specific instructional suggestions. The book is not indexed. Annotation c2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
