Gerard of Cremona's Translation of the Commentary of Al-Nayrizi on Book I of Euclid's Elements of Geometry ― With an Introductory Account of the Twenty-Two Early Extant Arabic Manuscripts of the Eleme

To put it all in chronological order: the Greek mathematician Euclid wrote the ten books of the Elements of Geometry about 300 BC. Starting as early as the tenth century AD, the work was translated into Arabic several times. Soon after, Abu'l 'Abba al-Fadl ben Hatim al-Nayrizi (d. 922 AD) wrote Sharh Kitab Uqlildis , a commentary on the ten books. In the 12th century, Gerard of Cremona translated the commentary into Latin, calling the author Anaritius. Now, Lo Bello translates into English the Latin commentary on the first of the ten books, promising the rest at a later date. He also briefly describes the 22 extant Arabic version of the Elements .
