Hejzlar is back home in Prague now, but he did the research that underlies this work while he was studying for a doctorate in theology in Pasadena, California. He explores the Divine Healing Movement in the US by comparing the theologies of four leading 20th-century teachers and practitioners. Bosworth and Hagin, he says, represent Pentecostal healing evangelism, and Sanford and MacNutt represent pastorally oriented healing ministry in mainline denominations. He contends that the two pair embody two paradigms of the ministry of healing driven by two distinct theologies of healing. His topics are the availability of healing; healing in the atonement; human response to divine promise; God, human being, and Satan; sacraments; medicine and self-care; and healing in the larger scheme of things.
