Covering concepts, institutions, personages, treaties, and laws, both historical and contemporary, this three-volume encyclopedia, which was five years in the making, presents entries on the wide range of subjects pertinent to the sub-discipline of international political economy. Beginners will find overviews and starting points for further research; those seasoned in the field will find considerable depth and substance. From David Ricardo's concept of "absolute advantage" to the Zapatista rebellion and zero sum games, some 1,400 entries vary in length from a paragraph to many pages, with some offering detailed explanations of such complicated matters as the Bretton Woods monetary regime, while others simply offer brief overviews of institutions such as banks or development corporations. R.J. Barry Jones is professor of international relations at the University of Reading, UK. His work encompasses international relations' theory and international political economy and he has published six books in the field of political economy and international political economy. His most recent publications have focused upon globalization - its nature and sources and, most recently, its implications for the state and for effective governance.
