Governance Reform in Africa ― International and Domestic Pressures and Counter-pressures

Offering a systematic examination of the political forces behind governance and governance reform in Sub-Saharan Africa, this study introduces four hypotheses, which are tested in four cases: Madagascar (1997-2006), Kenya (1990-2007), Nigeria (1999-2007), and Chad (1999-2008). From these cases, the author arrives at a model for the good governance socialization process. Appended are a long list of interviewees, a listing of the population of the 49 Sub-Saharan African countries in 2011, a glossary, and a bibliography.
