商品簡介
This festschrift, of sorts, for Robin Fox, a major figure in biosocial science and modern anthropology, contains essays by major thinkers in the field, and covers a wide variety of subjects: a fitting tribute to a polymath scientist whose interests and contributions range widely as well. Combining evolutionary biology and psychology, physical and cultural anthropology, sociology and pedagogical approaches, these essays range from the study of laughter and its role in human organizations to anthropological conceptions of self (with some emphasis on the anthropologists' own selves, from the cultural norms of incest to the role of consumerism in today's society, both biological constraints on and the "changing nature" of human nature itself. The breadth of subjects covered makes this volume so interesting: there is something here for scientists and laymen of widely varying fields of expertise and interest. Overall, this is a wonderful, sparkling collection of writing on ideas, their history and their importance to society. Annotation c2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
