商品簡介
Biographical sketches of key figures of the Civil War era create a composite portrait of the US during and immediately after the Civil War. Sketches of Stephen A. Douglas and Frederick Douglas provide two different viewpoints on the events leading to the war, while Harriet Tubman represents a form of social activism during the same years. Biographies of Civil War generals Stonewall Jackson and William Sherman present the Southern and Northern perspectives, and a sketch of an infantryman from Wisconsin provides insight into the life of the common soldier. Others profiled include politicians, business leaders, and a Native American leader. B&w photos are included. Risjord is emeritus professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
