This undergraduate textbook concentrates on contemporary liberal theory and its application to a variety of questions, such as civil disobedience, the welfare state, and campaign spending. Four chapters look at different liberal theories of justice, contrasting the separate traditions arising out of the work of Rawls, Nozick, Gauthier, and Dworkin. Following chapters look at political theories critical of liberalism, including communitarianism, multiculturalism, deliberative democracy, and feminism.
