This handbook provides psychiatrists with 'recipes' of practical guidelines and advice for conducting audits in a variety of clinical settings and services, within the context of UK practice and legislation. An introduction explains the basics of the audit cycle, reviews best practices for audits, and shows how audits can benefit doctors, then overviews the requirements of appointments panels and revalidation, and outlines 11 steps of an audit project. Following the introduction, the book offers two-page audit entries grouped in sections on specific disorders, legislation issues, physical health, service provision, training, and treatment (the longest section). The entries present information on standards, methods of data collection and analysis, people and time resources required, results, and recommendations, with much of the information in checklist form. Entries also include citations to reports and standards. Appendices offer forms and a review of pharmacological management of alcohol withdrawal.
