According to some sources, about half of the trade in tropical timber involves illegal activities such as graft, corruption, and outright theft at some point along the market chain. This volume collects papers from a March 2002 conference, convened by the Yale Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Foresters, which examines the problem of illegal logging through discussions of its extent, perceived causes, and potential solutions.
