商品簡介
Nedkvitne (medieval history, U. of Oslo) analyzes the impact of literacy on Scandinavian medieval society, considering the use of the written word both for administration and for literature. He begins with administrative literacy because the social consequences are most evident there, and because it has been largely neglected by other historians. Then he addresses the interaction between administrative and narrative literacy, and those linguistic and literary aspects that he finds to have had an important social impact. For the period before about 1350, he focuses on Norse saga literature, and for the later period on Swedish and Danish courtly tradition. Distributed in the US by the David Brown Book Company.
