商品簡介
Karwowska explores textual strategies for constructing space in a selection of novels by South African novelist Coetzee (b. 1940). She argues that the analysis of his spatial constructions and processes of spatial transformation can shed new light on his work, and highlight certain as yet unexplored aspects. One of the prevailing patterns she finds is his simultaneous application, subversion, and destruction of older, well established modes of spatial representation inherent in the colonial and master narratives of Western culture. She covers spaces and characters resisting the grip of conventions in In the Heart of the Country; the nomadic smooth space in Life and Times of Michael K; and spaces of crisis, space of awakening in Age of Iron.
