Sweeting, an Air Force veteran and consultant on flying clothing and personal equipment, traces the development, research and testing, manufacture, supply, and use of flying apparel and accessories worn by US Army aviators from 1917 to 1945. These include heavy winter shearling flying suits, electrically heated flying suits, other types of flying suits, other items of body clothing like flight jackets and sweaters, headgear, handwear, and footwear, with information on priorities and shortages, insignia, colors, material, and other aspects. An Air Force veteran and consultant on flying clothing and personal equipment, C.G. Sweeting was the curator of flight material at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, for 15 years. He lives in Clinton, Maryland.
