Paul Midford was a Monbusho scholar at Aoyama Gakuin University during 1992-1994 and has worked at the Research Institute for Peace and Security (RIPS) and the National Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA). Midford taught international and comparative politics at Japanese universities for more than seven years. His research focuses on East Asian regional international politics and security, Japanese foreign policy, and especially Japanese defense policy.
Professor Campbell is interested in how policies change from agenda-setting through implementation, and in the relationship between politics and substantive public policy. He works mostly on Japan, often in comparative perspective, and these days mainly focuses on social policy, including health care and Japan's new public, and the mandatory long-term-care insurance system.
