商品簡介
Death was frequent in the mines of Crowsnest Pass. However, the region was almost completely economically dependent on the rich vein of coal there, and regulations in the early twentieth century did little to make the mines safer, so the miners and their families worked on. In the thirty years after 1900 over 400 people were lost in the mines and countless others were injured. Those left to deal with the death and destruction had to do so with the sure knowledge that more were to come. Buckley (archivist, U. of Calgary) has collected a wide variety of materials about the tragedies encountered by the people of Crowsnest Pass. She includes a fascinating survey of the grave markers in the area, photographs, mining songs, a list of disasters, and statistics about who these people were, what they believed, and what happened to them.
