Editors Thorpe (management development, Leeds University Business School) and Holt (strategy and ethics, U. of Liverpool School of Management) have coordinated the work of a long list of contributors, most affiliated with UK-based academic institutions to compile a dictionary that leans toward being an encyclopedia. The entries (which are signed, cross-referenced, and indexed) are about 1,000 words in length and are arranged alphabetically. Each begins with a brief definition, which is followed by discussion of the background, assumptions, context, and applications of the word, and, for some, a critical analysis of uses and potential. References are cited in a 45-page section at the end of the book, but this extensive bibliography is not sorted by theme or subject matter.
