Ottoman Turkey, Ataturk, and Muslim South Asia ─ Perspectives, Perceptions, and Responses

The book analyses the literature on the nineteenth-century pan-Islam in South Asia and then gradually unfolds its practical expression in the politics of South Asia while interacting with the Ottoman Turks as well as with Ataturk and his modern Turkey in the milieu of British and Allied policies.

M. Naeem Qureshi, Ph.D. (London), has recently been Professor of History at the National Institute of Pakistan Studies, Islamabad, Pakistan. Before that he was HEC's Eminent Professor at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. During his substantive association with the University (1974-1996), he held the Chair of History for a number of years. Later, he was Head of Humanities Program at GIK Institute, Topi (1996-2001). In between, he was a Ford Foundation Fellow for post-doc exchange at the University of Pennsylvania (1977), taught history at Mekerere University, Kampala (1978-79), and won the prestigious Japan Foundation Fellowship for the University of Tokyo (1981-82). He has contributed articles to several research journals mostly in the field of modern South Asia and politics of Islam. He is also a regular contributor to the Encyclopaedia of Islam published by Turkeye Diyanet Vakfi, Istanbul, Turkey.
