商品簡介
Grosjean (The Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies, Aberdeen) began her study to look more deeply into the few high-profile Scots who migrated to Sweden during the 17th century and became marauding mercenaries, wealthy merchants, and distinguished noblemen. She found a very different story, hidden by a confusion of national labels that has only gotten worse with the passing of centuries, and a neglect by anglophone scholars of fertile Swedish records. She first looks at the Scottish military and naval contribution to the Swedish crown, and the integration of Scots into Swedish civil society and government. Then she details the Swedish perspective on requests for aid from Scotland and for a closer alliance, especially after the fusing of Scottish and English crowns in 1604.
