商品簡介
Planarians, a type of flatworm, are the lowest form of life that possesses an integrated neural network organized in a manner that many consider to represent the earliest brain. They also contain many of the same biochemical substances used by mammals as neurotransmitters. In this book, Raffa and Rawls (Temple University School of Pharmacy) demonstrate that planarians can provide an accurate model for drug abuse which can complement mammalian studies and lead to possible therapeutic interventions. They present background about the historical development, current understanding, and future possibilities for research into drug action and drug abuse, learning and memory, and regeneration using planarians. Contributors are actively involved with the development and use of planarian model systems. Color and b&w images are included. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
