Ian Anderson learned to surf on San Diego waves while living on a nearby military base, and knew it would only be a matter of time before he returned. The child of a US serviceman, he spent his entire youth on such bases, traveling the globe from Japan to the UK, throughout the American south up and up to Washington DC. But nothing resonated so deeply as the Southern California lifestyle.
He returned to earn a writing degree from prestigious Pomona College, and though he's continued to explore the world a few weeks or months at a time, those San Diego beaches keep luring him home, never once judging him for repeated dalliances in Hawaiian, Costa Rican or European waters.
Anderson currently covers America's Finest City as a reporter and restaurant critic, occasionally contributing to national publications on a freelance basisusually about some combination of beer, music and travel. He's written a number of books as a ghostwriter, and even delved into ecological sciences to co-author An Eco-Friendly Online Shopping Guide for thepurplebook series of web shopping manuals. But for the most part his expertise matches his interests, chief among them exploring the globe's sights, sounds and flavors, and bringing these experiences to life for inquisitive readers.
