Jankowska applies principles of translation to the design of audio description texts, which give visually impaired people access to information that other viewers perceive only visually. The technique is used in visual or partially visual arts such as television and cinema, stage and sports shows, and museums and galleries and can be incorporated into video disks. She covers audio description in theory and in practice, the state of the art, research methodology, time-consumption analysis, pilot study, and a comparative analysis of the scripts. Anna Jankowska is an Assistant Lecturer in the UNESCO Chair for Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Her recent research projects include studies on the viability of translating audio description scripts from foreign languages, multiculturalism in audio description, audio description for foreign films and the history of audiovisual translation. She is the founder and president of the Seventh Sense Foundation which campaigns for media accessibility in Poland.
