Taking an interdisciplinary approach, Heilesen and Jensen, both affiliated with Roskilde University, Denmark, collect work on the design, implementation, and integration of computer mediated communication, in an attempt to bridge the gap between the fields of computer science and communication studies. European contributors present results from recent research on a variety of forms of networked communications, focusing on organizational aspects and practices, design methods and principles, and development of social conventions and interactions. Some specific topics addressed include designing for communication on the Web, test and experimentation platforms for broadband systems, the psychology of online sociability, and designing control of computer-mediated gifting in sharing networks.
