商品簡介
This intermediate-level textbook for a course or self-study takes a functional approach to grammar, drawing on Halliday's systemic-functional grammar as well as ideas from cognitive linguistics and discourse analysis. The book is written primarily for undergraduate and graduate students of English as a foreign or second language. It will also be useful for teachers and lecturers, whether native or non-native speakers of English, and for others interested in applying a broadly functional approach to language teaching in higher education. The book attempts to be accessible, with limited material on theory, offering 12 self-contained chapters centered on language functions. Each chapter is broken down into class-length units, with a total of 59 units in the book. Unit and chapter summaries, exercises, and answers are included. The first chapter defines basic terms and concepts. The next seven chapters describe clausal and sentence patterns, and five subsequent chapters deal with nominal, verbal, adjectival, adverbial, and prepositional groups and phrases. This third edition offers a reader-friendly layout with many tables and charts, plus new examples, especially American English examples. A new companion web site contains additional exercises, a glossary, and a teacher's guide. Annotation c2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
