Shafik Meghji was born and brought up in south London. After graduating from the University of Warwick, he gained the Guardian's Scott Trust Bursary for aspiring journalists and went on to write for the paper and for the London Evening Standard. Shafik has also contributed to Rough Guides to the Baltic States, India, Chile, Nepal, Paris, and Egypt. When not on the road, he works as a writer and editor for Amnesty International UK and as a freelance journalist for a wide range of newspapers, magazines, and websites.

Anna Kaminski is a travel writer for Rough Guides, Lonely Planet, and Trailblazer. She is the coauthor of The Rough Guide to Chile, a country she has been enamored of ever since becoming hooked on Isabel Allende's novels and Pablo Neruda's poetry while doing a degree on the history and literature of Latin America. Since then, she has traveled the entire length of Chile on several occasions—for research and pleasure—though it's the frozen south that entices her the most. Rosalba O'Brien became interested in Latin America through her degree in comparative American studies, after which she spent a number of years traveling and leading adventure tours in Peru, Brazil, and Argentina.
