Robert Milder (introduction) is a professor of English at Washington University in St. Louis. He is the author of three books, includingHawthorne’s Habitations: A Literary Life.
Thomas E. Connolly (notes; 1918–2002) was a literary critic and professor of English at the University of Buffalo.
