The Cognitive Neuropsychology of Schizophrenia

In this essay Frith focuses on intersection of cognitive psychology and neuropsychology in the current understanding of schizophrenia, with an eye toward using research into the organic basis of the disorder to illuminate normal functioning and vice versa. The book begins by discussing the slippery nature of schizophrenia diagnosis and symptoms, then moves onto what is known about associated brain abnormalities, philosophical and methodological approaches to linking mind and brain, and behavioral abnormalities. Positive symptoms are particularly explored as a manifestation of specific brain systems and cognitive deficits. Christopher D. Frith is Emeritus Professor at University College London, UK, Visiting Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark, and Quondam Fellow of All Souls College, University of Oxford, UK. In 2009 he was awarded the Fyssen Foundation Prize for his work on neuropsychology.
