Patrick N. McDermott, PhD, is the director of clinical physics at the William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. Prior to accepting that position in 2005, he was an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Physicist in the Detroit Medical Center, Karmanos Cancer Institute at Wayne State University. In that position, he gained extensive experience teaching undergraduate physics and developing the graduate medical physics program. He has also been a staff physicist at the Radiation Oncology Research and Development Corporation in Detroit, assistant professor of physics at Albion College, and postdoctoral research fellow at Northwestern University. He earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Rochester, and an MS in Radiological Physics from Wayne State University. He is board certified in radiation oncology physics. Among his many accomplishments, he was recipient of the Mission Vision Standards Award from the William Beaumont Health System in 2013 and named Teacher of the Year by the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology.
