Humanomputer Interface Technologies for the Motor Impaired

Kumar and Arjunan present readers with an examination of the various contemporary human-computer interfaces (HCI) commonly used to assist the motor impaired. The authors describe a number of HCI technologies that range from simple modifications to computer accessories to HCI technologies relying on a direct interface with the subject's brain. Additional related subjects covered over the ten chapters of the text include mechanical sensors, brain and computer interfaces based on thought waves, evoked potentials-based brain and computer interfaces, myoelectric-based hand gesture recognition for human-computer interface applications, and others. Dinesh K Kumar obtained his PhD from IIT Madras and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Delhi and AIIMS, Delhi. He is Professor and Leader for Biomedical Engineering at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. He has published over 330 refereed papers in the field, and his interests include muscle control, affordable diagnostics, and human computer interface. He is an editor on multiple journals and chairs a range of conferences related to Biomedical Engineering.

Sridhar Poosapadi Arjunan received PhD in Biomedical Signal Processing from RMIT University, Australia, in 2009. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow with Biosignals Lab at RMIT University. He is a recipient of RMIT SECE Research Scholarship (2006–2008), CASS Australian Early Career Researcher grant (2010), and Australia-India ECR fellowship (2013). He has published over seventy research articles and co-authored a book titled Devices for Mobility and Manipulation for People with Reduced Abilities published in 2014. His major research interests include biomedical signal processing, rehabilitation study, fractal theory, and human computer interface applications.

Mohd Zul Che Azemin received his PhD from RMIT University, Australia, in 2012. He is currently working as an assistant professor at the International Islamic University, Malaysia. He has published over twenty research articles. His research interests include image processing, retinal image analysis, and biometrics.
