Münstedt investigates how the rheological characteristics of polymers in filled polymers and polymer blends affect how the polymer interacts with matrix molecules and how heterogeneous phases interact with each other, which in turn affects processing. His topics include rheological properties of Newtonian polymeric materials filled with microparticles, elongational properties of filled thermoplastics, the rheological behavior of polymer melts with intrinsic structural heterogeneities, rheological properties of blends of homologous polymeric materials, and morphology development in compatibilized polymer blends.
