商品簡介

This second edition of An Introduction to Comparative Legal Models of Criminal Justice is an introductory text to comparative criminal justice. Roberson and Das, having traveled and studied in most major nations and having had as well experience in the criminal justice system for more than 30 years, present a text that covers international legal models and may be used in a one-semester course. They cite how a country’s legal model greatly determines the character of its police and corrections and its legal system. They begin with a brief overview of the legal models. In following chapters each legal model is discussed and countries selected under each legal model are analyzed. They survey police agencies and correctional systems used by those countries. Three international courts are examined. The book concludes with a discussion on international criminal justice agencies. New material includes, inter alia, expanded discussion on the oldest known legal systems; examination of Mexico’s reform movement; expanded discussion on the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta; covers women in Mexico’s prisons; looks at a typical Chinese criminal trial; examines sentencing of children in South Africa.
