This work contains the description of the subfamily Cichorioideae of the large family of the composites (Asteraceae), which includes 33 genera and 945 species. Both wild and important introduced plants of this subfamily, found in the European part of Russia and bordering regions, are described, with information about their taxonomy, habitat conditions, and chromosome numbers. Thirty-nine b&w illustrations of plants, plus one b&w map, are included. The book was originally published as Flora Evropeiskoi Chasti SSSR, tom VIII by Nauka Publishers, Leningrad, 1989, and translated into English by V. S. Kothekar.
