Health Care Information Systems ─ A Practical Approach for Health Care Management

The most widely used textbook on health care information management, Health Care Information Systems provides students and future health care managers with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and manage health information and health information technology in any health care organization.

Significant changes have occurred in recent years in terms of health care reform, accountable care, and the shift to population health management. To meet the needs of this changing health care environment, the fourth edition will shift the focus on health care information systems primarily from a provider or institutional perspective to one that focuses on how information systems can be useful tools in promoting health, engaging patients, and managing care across the continuum, more from a health system perspective. This is a shift that is echoed in many of the peer reviewer comments.

The book will retain its four part structure, but the focus of each part and the organization of chapters within will change significantly. New chapters on the national health information technology landscape and population health management will be added. The case study chapter that anchors the book will be updated and expanded.
