商品簡介
In this study of the hero as he is manifest in the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata, McGrath (Sanskrit, Harvard U.) focuses principally on Karna, arguing that he represents an ideal typology for heroic-aryan ideals from both an archaic and a classical perspective, and is the most important hero of the poem. On the foundation of two basic assumptions one concerning the nature of preliterate epic poetry, and the other concerning a basic Indo-European heroic substrate he offers evidence that the poem is uniquely important as an Indo-European epic that still functions in modern society, and indicates parallel narratives in other epics.
