From the creators of Secret Restaurant Portland, this is a locally produced cookbook that was funded by a Kickstarter campaign and sold out its first printing. This is an independently created, completely home-grown cookbook by Andrew Barton and photographer Peter Schweitzer. They are young people living the life in Portland, OR. Andrew and his girlfriend have been running Secret Restaurant Portland for over six years. Andrew's day job is as a preschool teacher; Peter Schweitzer is building a business as a professional photographer. Andrew is a culinary autodidact--having spent no real time in a restaurant kitchen--who has invested time, passion, and intent to learn and practice the art of cooking. He grows a full kitchen garden, absorbs the influence of such masters as Nigel Slater, David Tanis, and Deborah Madison. The result is inspired, original, and charming. This is beautiful home cooking with strong Pacific Northwest influences. Andrew has a highly tuned food sense, and he expresses his invitingly casual but intentional way in the kitchen in each and every recipe. The reader will gain nearly as much from reading these recipes as from cooking them.
