R. G. Grasnt is a historian who has written extensively on many aspects and periods of history. Among his more than fifty published books are: Battle, Soldier, and Battle at the Sea (2005, 2007, 2008). He was also a major contributor to the ITV Visual History of the Twentieth Century (1999) and consultant for Chronology of World History (1995).

After forty years of continuous service, Robert Doughty retired from the U.S. Army in 2005 he served as the Professor and Head of the Department of History at the U.S. Military Academy. In addition to receiving the U.S. Distinguished Service Medal and the Silver Star, he has received numerous academic awards, including the Paul Birdsall Prize from the American Historical Association and the Samuel Eliot Morison Prize from the Society for Military History.
