Applying Big Data Analytics in Bioinformatics and Medicine

This book brings together international contributors in bioinformatics, computational biology, environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, and environmental and health impact assessment to report on the use of big data analytics in bioinformatics and medicine. Early chapters offer an introduction to bioinformatics in medicine and medical systems and an overview of recent issues, technologies, and applications in medical bioinformatics. Chapters in the next section describe how bioinformatics in the fields of genomics and proteomics is applied to medicine, health, and medical systems. Further chapters explore the application of big data analytics for medical and health informatics. Some topics examined include protein docking and drug design, medical liver imaging, Bayesian networks in the diagnosis of bulimia and anorexia, and the role of online data from search engines and social media in healthcare informatics.
