Simplified TRIZ is a pragmatic book. It is in the first order a nuts and bolts how-to guide for finding and resolving everyday problems, improvement of products, technologies and services, foreseeing the future, finding important knowledge from the deluge of information. It works as nuts and bolts or how-to guide for continuous improvement for produces and processes. It also works as an introduction to the study of advanced tools and technologies that are useful and cost-effective in big projects. The new edition will generalize the experience of TRIZ applications worldwide for last 15 years in big and small companies and also in academy.
This book gives a streamlined and updated toolkit, containing many easy-to and easy-to-learn use tools for everyday problem solving and step-by-step improvements of work, in the spirit of kaizen. At the same time, it gives basis for thorough study of advanced tools. It is the ABC or the "arithmetic" of problems solving. It works for both immediate use and longtime study.
A big part of the contents in the third edition will tell of the implementation of TRIZ. Experience in Samsung, GE, Siemens, Intel, P&G and also in small companies, and universities all over the world is analyzed. The book tells which tools of TRIZ work best and how they can be combined with other tools as Six Sigma, QRD and Lean. The chapter of improving business with TRIZ will be enlarged. A new chapter on innovation across industries will be added. Throughout the book will be examples and other material connecting TRIZ applications with the value the customer gets from innovative solutions.
In 1979-1985, Kalevi Rantanen studied in the former USSR and earned his M.Sc in mechanical engineering and discovered TRIZ. He worked in the Finnish industry from 1985-1991, and at the same time conducted TRIZ training. Since 1991 he has been an independent entrepreneur where he conducted mainly TRIZ training. From 2002 he concentrated on science and technology journalism and published more than 600 popular stories. He published the first of edition of Simplified TRIZ with Ellen Domb and two books on TRIZ in Finnish. In 2015 he published a book on photonics and its application in Finnish. He has also published papers on TRIZ in the TRIZ Journal.
Ellen Domb learned about TRIZ while working as a strategic planning and quality improvement consultant, and incorporated it into all of her work, since all clients needed creative problem solving. She founded the TRIZ Journal to provide a vehicle for global communication about TRIZ, and for the improvement of TRIZ by the practitioners.
She developed consulting and training systems that have been popular with companies ranging from entrepreneurial start-ups to international mega-enterprises such as 3M, GE, Dow Chemical, Cummins, Medtronics, Syngenta, and Hewlett Packard, plus the US Department of Energy and several state governments in the US and Mexico. She received the MATRIZ (International TRIZ Association) "TRIZ Champion" award in 2016 for her work in promoting TRIZ.
David Conley received his BS of Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University and his Masters of Finance from the University of New Mexico. As an Air Force Officer he performed plasma physics and space nuclear propulsion research and served at Los Alamos and Brookhaven National Laboratories and on NASA’s Nuclear Safety Review Panel. His private sector experience includes Johnson and Johnson, Philips Semiconductor, and Intel Corporation. At Intel Corp. from 1995 until 2012 David held a variety of engineering and management roles and is the only person corporate wide to have ever held a Level 4 TRIZ Specialist certification. During his last seven years with Intel Corp., David was the lead of Intel’s world-wide innovation program. Certified by the International TRIZ Association, David’s contributions to the field of systematic innovation include: technical, computer and business system problem solving, materials development, methodology training, program integration and serving on the Executive Board and Certification Committee of the US based Altshuller Institute for TRIZ Studies. David is the President of Innomation Corp and the Managing partner of the PQR Group – firms dedicated to the teaching and execution of innovation methods. Utilizing TRIZ he has solved hundreds of challenging engineering problems, trained hundreds of students and developed thousands of pages of training courses and manuals. Additionally, David is one of the few pioneers worldwide in the application of TRIZ to the disciplines of business and computing systems.
