This history charts the rise and fall of the Ustahsa movement, a fascist movement in Croatia, within the context of European fascism during the 20th century. The book investigates factors (especially international factors) that allowed the Ustahsa movement to flourish and to exterminate Serbs, Jews, and Romani during its brief but destructive rise in the 1940s, and ponders whether the movement's leader, Ante Pavelic, was a pawn in larger German and international plans. There is also discussion of the escape of the movement's leaders after its fall and the fate of Ante Pavelic in Argentina during the Cold War. B&w historical photos are included.
