It is imperative that medical students learn the fundamental physiology of the cardiovascular system. This book, along with its interactive electronic learning modules, breathes life into the subject with animations, videos and game-like decision-making.

Burt Hamrell is an emeritus professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Vermont where he spent 30 years in research on the physiology and pathophysiology of heart muscle mechanics and in teaching cardiovascular physiology to medical and allied health students. He also was director of the medical physiology course at Vermont. He continues to be invited to teach cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology at Vermont and in other medical schools. He uses his combined background in internal medicine and cardiology and in cardiovascular physiology to enliven his teaching and ensure that students understand the relevance of what they are learning. Recently he has begun to develop electronic learning modules to foster active learning among the students he teaches. He also currently serves on the board of two USMLE review websites.
