Banichuk and Ivanova develop analytical and numerical methods for solving optimization problems of quasi-static interaction of rigid punches with elastic foundation and high speed penetration of strikers into an elastic-plastic medium. Considering in turn quasi-statics of contact interaction, and high-speed penetration into a deformable medium, they discuss such aspects as optimizing the shape of a punch moving with friction, optimization in contact problems under incomplete data. strikers of non-axisymmetric optimal shape, penetration into a solid medium under strength constraints, and striker shape optimization using the condition of minimal ballistic limit velocity for layered slabs.
