The authors (both of the Department of Chinese Studies, National U. of Singapore) attempt a systematic treatment of the processes, mechanisms, and consequences of shifting patterns of business, politics, and social transformation of Singapore's Chinese community (comprising some 75% of the country) in the decades following World War II. The work is organized thematically, offering chapters on the Chinese business community and Huiguan schools at a time of political transition, responses to changes in educational policies, student and labor movements, economic transformation and corporate management, and Singapore in the regional context of social and business networks.
