Capsules are routinely used for encapsulation and delivery of ingredients in various pharmaceutics, consumer care products, and nutrients and food. Generally the functions of the capsules are to protect and deliver ingredients to targeted sites in time to improve their functions. Although various materials have been used to prepare capsules, polymers are one of the most versatile and important capsule materials.
This book focuses on the current state of the art of polymer-based capsules. It discusses the fundamental knowledge of the formations and formulations and the properties and performances of typical polymers capsules, together with their applications. It can be used as a guiding tool to design and formulate polymer capsules for pharmaceutical and consumer-care products as well as nutrients and food products with improved performances.
Ye Liu is a senior scientist at Soft Materials Department (SOF) of Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR, and has been associated with it since 1999. Prior to this, he was associated with the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, University of Science and Technology of China, first as a lecturer and then as an associate professor. He has also been a research assistant (engineer) at the Institute of Polymer Materials, Anhui University, China, and assistant lecturer, Department of Chemistry, Anhui Normal University, China.
Xian Jun Loh is a senior scientist at IMRE, A*STAR, and is also head of SOF. He has also been assistant professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National University of Singapore, and adjunct scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute.
