This book aims at covering the wide and growing field of PDE-constrained optimization and at highlighting a range of challenging applications. Optimization problems where the dynamics evolve according to a system of partial differential equations arise in a great variety of fields such as physics, chemistry, material science, geophysics, engineering, medical imaging, and biology. Inverse problems, control or optimal design often amounts to solving PDE-constrained optimization problems. Theoretical as well as computational and implementation aspects are covered, as well as problems involving uncertainty, shape optimization and feedback control.
