Worldwide, 30-40% of all primary energy is used in buildings (IEA, 2010). Residential sector accounts for the major part of the energy consumed in buildings. Residential buildings account for almost 73.5% of total electrical energy consumption in buildings in India (CEA, 2018). The building and construction sector is a key sector for sustainable development. Areas of key concern include energy use with associated Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste generation, construction materials use and recycling, water use etc. Primary energy demand is growing at an average rate of 4.6% in year 2016 and is predicted to double by 2030 (TEDDY, 2009), (IEA, 2010). There is an increase in electrical energy use in residential buildings of 8.5% per year and in commercial buildings of approximately 14.3% (CEA, 2018). Delivered energy consumption for residential and commercial buildings in India is expected to increase by an average of 2. 7% per year between 2015 and 2040 (IEO, 2017).
