Belonging- My Transformation to a Cult-Free Life, a redo of my initial memoirs, addresses my story from a different angle and for a much broader purpose. That purpose is: to make a positive impact in the world by inspiring others to not only break away from destructive association(s) but get closure on their trauma and live happy lives. Ideally some will go on to help others do likewise.
Had it not been for the cathartic experience of composing and publishing my story in 2017, it is doubtful that I would have been able to create a beautiful new life (at age 62 no less). Even more important than that, no longer absorbed in my own trauma, I have become more sensitive to the trauma countless people suffer. Thus, I am driven to help others more so now than ever.
The questions I have been asked most often are "Why did you get involved with a Cult in the first place?" and "Why did it take you so long to finally get out?" On the road to discovery, I found the answers; the impulse to fit in, to be accepted, to belong.
Betterment of mankind is a hallmark of many Cults. This has proven to be an irresistible draw to anyone wanting to make the world a better place. I, like many others, fell for the Cult's professed goals. I was so committed to their lofty ideals that I ignored the signs of voracious greed and tolerated harsh abuse.
Many organizations, and individuals for that matter, are not what they seem. I'm not the first person, nor will I be the last, to be deceived. I am hopeful that all my readers find something of value.
